Keeping The Sanity During Interior House Painting

If your interior house is being painted, the natural tendency is to want to tear your hair out and cry in frustration. The smell of paint, the plastic or tarps all over, and the mess can be enough to drive you to drink! But it doesn’t have to be that way – there are alternatives, tips for surviving house painting.
Interior House Painting: Analyzing The Frustration
First of all, having a house “under construction” and trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy is almost impossible. Depending on which part of the interior is painted in your house, the “adventure” – or trial – is different.
If your bathroom is being painted, it can be hard to use the toilet or sink, or move around as you need to. Having a shower amid the fumes? Maybe not. Hopefully, your bathroom painting project won’t take too long – or you’ll just have to use a different bathroom in your house.
The kitchen is another matter altogether. Because of the size and different shape, it usually takes longer than any other room. Other rooms in the house, like bedrooms, are just four walls and a doorway, plus a closet. Once the room is empty, it’s a simple matter to spray or brush the room. But a kitchen requires a lot more masking off of areas that don’t need to be painted like countertops and cupboards. There can also be more of moving things out of harm’s way, off the counters or walls. And then having to replace them once the interior painting of your house is finished.
Coping Techniques During Interior House Painting
If your interior house painting is getting to you, try a method of handling the excess stress. There are several experts recommend.
First, hire a competent professional, one that won’t take too long. If you have a great expert, the job won’t stretch out longer than necessary, because they want to move on to the next job as soon as possible.
Don’t expect to keep things as usual. Compensate in whatever way you can to make things better. For example, rather than trying to use a bathroom in your interior house painting project, move what you’ll need for a few days into a different, unaffected bathroom. If you only have one bathroom, take the things you’ll need out of the bathroom – put on your makeup in your bedroom, or the kitchen with a mirror if you need to. Minimize your time in the chaos.
The kitchen presents a larger problem – but one that can be worked around. The key? Take out. Plan to go out to eat as much as you can while your kitchen is being painted – it will ease your sanity a lot. How can you cook in a fume-filled kitchen? No one in their right mind will want to do that. By the time your interior house painting project is complete, you’ll be delighted to be eating home cooked meals again.
