Even if a person decides to do half marathon running, it is still essential that the training and the marathon running equipment is appropriate for this grueling task. Half marathon running is a little over thirteen miles which requires consistent training on the part of the runners. Usually the training will have to run for about two to three months before race day to make sure that the person’s body can handle the strain of the run. It will also allow the person to enjoy the race much more if he has done the appropriate training for it. Half marathon running is often the choice of individuals who would like to be able to do a full marathon but do not have the time to do the longer runs required on a regular basis. It is also often the first step for those who are training for a full marathon at about the midway point in their training because it gives them an additional goal to shoot for with a reward attached to it.
Equipment For Half Marathon Running
Half marathon running does not take a lot of equipment, but the equipment that is needed is essential to the success of the endeavor. Shoes are the most important piece of equipment required for any type of running. There are specialty stores for running shoes and although it is usually more expensive to buy shoes there, it is worth it to have an experienced staff give their advice on the shoe that would be best. These stores will often have a treadmill and camera set up so that they can analyze the runner’s gait while they run. In this way they can determine if the runner rolls the ankle in or out, if the foot turns out when running and other issues that a good shoe can help to correct. They will also look at the arch of the foot to determine what type of support is needed in that area.
When trying on the running shoes, the runner should go outside and take a brief run around the store. He should determine if the shoe is slipping in any area or if it is binding in any area as well. These things cannot usually be determined without taking the shoe out for a test run. If any of these things are an issue on the test run, how much more so when the person is doing the half marathon running event and the training before it. The shoes should fit comfortably and snugly without binding or slipping. They should be light weight and also give support to the arch of the foot.
