Skateboarding is an incredibly popular sport today. There are millions of avid skaters and fans of skating all around the world. Anyone who’s interested in getting started in the sport is going to need to take the time to learn how to skateboard. Good balance is an important skill and there are a few moves that must be mastered if you want to know how to skateboard.
The first that should be mastered is actually the first skating trick ever invented, the Ollie. You may also want to get some knee and elbow pads since you’re just starting out because you’re liable to fall down a couple times while you’re trying to get the hang of things. Learning the Ollie is the best way to get started, as this is one of the most basic and integral tricks of the sport. It’s very simple to do, and you can get started by trying an Ollie without the board even moving.
For an Ollie you place your front foot in the middle and back foot at the end of the skateboard. Then you bend your body down a bit and push hard on the back end. The more power that you can put into the board with your Ollie, the more air you’ll get. The board will get air and this allows you to jump up onto objects such as rails.
The Manual is another very basic trick and one that any person learning how to skateboard should work on. This is a trick that lifts the front wheels of the board up and has you balancing on two wheels while moving. It’s always impressing and quite easy to do. Then you just want to put one foot on the tail and one near the middle of the board and once you’re near the object you want to Ollie onto, perform the Ollie then land on your back wheels and ride for as long as you can maintain balance.
Some skaters can hold their Manuals until the board slows down on its own. Boardsliding is another really cool trick which you can do after you have mastered the Ollie. You want to ride the board down the rail then Ollie back off onto the side you started from. Then you Ollie off and land on the same side that you started on.
