Worm farms are of great interest to a lot of people and you may be one of the many people out there who is interested in starting up their very own worm farm. There are people all around the world who have their own worm farm, most who have it for the purpose of breeding worms to use as bait. If you enjoy fishing and you like to go regularly this can save you a lot of money in the end. There are various different worm farm problems that you could experience but you can deal with anything that comes your way.
Often times with worm farms the worms are not eating enough and this is nothing big to get alarmed about. Make sure you set up a proper feeding schedule and they should be eating no more than once or twice a week. Worms are not interested in anything citrusy or any milk products and instead you should be feeding them dirty paper, coffee grounds and hair. It is really simple to start changing your worm’s diet and you will be able to tell if they are eating it because the food will not just be left sitting around.
Often people with worm farms notice that there is rotting food left in the container. If you know you are feeding the worms the right things but there is still food leftover so long it is rotting, you may just be feeding them too much. Try feeding a bit less and if that is all eaten up you can add a bit more in and then continue with this until you have found the proper balance. The problem with rotting food is not only that it will stink up your house or yard but also it can make the worms sick if they try eating it.
If the worms are climbing up the sides of the container or they look as though they are fat and pale you probably have too much water in the container. They will usually stay on the ground but if there is too much water they will try to climb away so they do not drown. This problem is also very simple to deal with. Add in more newspaper and dry leaves.
If the worms were looking plump before you will want to watch and make sure they go back to the normal size. It can take quite a bit of time and effort to take proper care of a worm farm. You need to keep the worm farm from becoming overpopulated and also check regularly to see that the worms look healthy. Put a little TLC into it and you can have a striving worm farm.
